Sustaining a Culture

I went to Obando once again during the Kasilonawan Festival to accompany a friend and co-teach in UST and FEU, Bebotsky, who wanted to thank Saint Claire for the bouncing baby boy.
It was quite a novel experience for her and her husband. And although I spent my early adolescent years running along the streets of Obando, gyrating my hips to a new tune would always bring a natural high. And the not to miss Lechon of Mang Tibay!
I saw our beloved priest, Fr. Danny Delos Reyes, a former schoolmate, Lawrence Contreras, who proudly told me that the costumes the golden ladies were wearing were a hundred and fifty years old. The ati-atihan dancers wore new costumes and, of course, faces. My former friend who used to be a member of the group could not even bend to reach his pocket.
